Why Leech Lake is the Perfect Host

Leech Lake is one of Minnesota’s most famous fisheries, spanning over 112,000 acres with 195 miles of shoreline. Its diverse structure offers a unique challenge for anglers:

  • Expansive weed beds and shallow grass flats perfect for largemouth bass
  • Rocky points, mid-lake humps, and sand flats that attract smallmouth bass
  • Large bays and varied underwater structure that create a dynamic and exciting fishing experience

While widely known for world-class walleye fishing, Leech Lake’s thriving bass population makes it ideal for a championship tournament in late summer. Competitors will need to adapt to changing conditions, manage long runs, and adjust to northern fishing patterns to succeed.

Tournament Highlights & What Fans Can Expect

The 2026 Strike King Bassmaster College Championship will feature:

  • Top college anglers from across the country competing for a national title
  • Three days of exciting competition on Minnesota’s premier bass lake
  • Daily weigh-ins, live updates, and fan-friendly viewing areas
  • Classic northern fishing patterns with largemouth bass in thick vegetation and docks, and smallmouth bass near rock points and mid-lake structures

This event isn’t just about the competition, it’s a chance for visitors and anglers to see college teams in action, learn about the lake’s unique fishing techniques, and enjoy everything Walker and Leech Lake have to offer.

Plan Your Visit: Stay, Explore & Enjoy

We want all visitors to have a full Up North experience while attending the tournament. Here’s how you can make the most of your trip:

  • Stay at nearby resorts, cabins, or lakefront lodging for convenience and comfort
  • Explore Leech Lake recreation: fishing, boating, and water sports
