Chippewa National Forest<\/h2>\n

The Chippewa National Forest, located just a short drive from Leech Lake and Walker, MN, is renowned for having the highest concentration of Bald Eagles than any other place in the lower 48 states.\u00a0 The forest covers 667,094 acres. Water is abundant, with over 1,300 lakes, 923 miles of rivers and stream. The Forest has more lakes and wetlands than any other National Forest in the nation, boasting approximately 13% of all surface water within the entire National Forest system.\u00a0 There are over 3000 archeological and historic sites located within the forest. The Forest contains 41 miles of paved bike trails, 43 miles of unpaved bike trails, 160 miles of hiking trails, 298 miles of non-motorized trails, 380 miles of snowmobile trails, 20 miles of horse trails, and 83 boat accesses, making it a perfect destination for adventures year-round.<\/p>\n

Paul Bunyan State Forest<\/h2>\n

Covering over 150,000 acres in North-Central Minnesota, the Paul Bunyan State Forest is a short drive from Leech Lake and Walker, MN, making it an ideal destination for outdoor enthusiasts.<\/p>\n

There are many trials for popular outdoor recreational<\/a> activities. Trails<\/a> are designated for such varied uses such as mountain biking<\/a>, with 18 miles specifically for hiking<\/a>, 37 miles for Class I and II all-terrain vehicle<\/a> use, and 87 miles for off-highway motorcycling<\/a>. In the wintertime, trails are designated for cross-country skiing<\/a> and 60 miles are set aside for snowmobiling<\/a>. The Paul Bunyan State Trail<\/a>, the Heartland State Trail<\/a>, and the North Country National Scenic Trail<\/a> all pass through the forest.<\/p>\n

Itasca State Park<\/h2>\n
