Report from the Dock<\/h2>\n

This week’s cooler weather has made it feel a little bit more like the fall fishing season is approaching. It certainly feels better than last week’s summer-like heat, and a few fall-like trends have started to develop. Minnows have produced more walleyes this week than last, although nightcrawlers are still turning fish as well. It seems that bigger minnows are the way to go, either on a jig or some form of live-bait rig. Fish are being found on deep structure, weedlines, and on shallow breaks. Look for shallow water to be the most productive in many areas if water temperatures continue to drop. Another sign of fall: Bigger perch have started to bite with some consistency on many lakes, and they are shallow – less than 10 feet in most cases. Crappies and bluegills remain weed-related, but several reports indicated suspended panfish over deep, basin areas – yet another sign that fall fishing patterns are starting to take shape.<\/p>\n

Leech Lake Report<\/h2>\n

Perch continue to be caught in 5 to 7 feet with a jig and minnow around Sand Point and the Walker Narrows. Walleye action is spotty with a few fish being taken on a jig and minnow or crankbaits in 8 to 14 feet around points and shoreline breaks. Muskies remain active, hitting bucktails and topwater baits on the main-lake rocks or weeds in Portage Bay and Sucker Bay.<\/p>\n
