Report from the Dock<\/h2>\n

Most ice-fishing options have temporarily come to an end across the southern part of the state. There\u2019s still plenty of main lake ice, but it\u2019s soft, and the shorelines have pulled away. <\/span>The ice-fishing season might not be over, but it has to get cold before fishing through the ice is again an option in this region.<\/span><\/p>\n

Anglers are walking out or using ATVs in other parts of the state, with some limited truck-use options in far northern Minnesota. Overall, ice conditions improved a bit since last week in many areas, but it\u2019s still not in great shape. <\/span>But even where ice and lake conditions are in decent shape, fishing pressure remains limited. Simply put, there aren\u2019t a lot of people fishing anywhere in the state. <\/span>With a few exceptions, walleye reports have been extremely limited this week. There seemed to be more anglers chasing panfish. Look for crappies and bluegills in the mid-depth weeds or suspended over deep, basin locations.<\/span><\/p>\n

Leech Lake Report<\/h2>\n

Walleye action has been slow, but the fish being caught have been big and are being caught mainly during low-light periods in 24 to 28 feet. The deeper humps in Walker Bay have also kicked out a few walleyes this week. Perch continue to be active in 16 to 20 feet, but require a lot of sorting through small fish. Eelpout are showing up on the 22- to 30-foot breaks throughout the main lake, while tullibees are being found suspended over deep water out of Trapper\u2019s Landing and Horseshoe Bay. Continue to work through resorts for travel options.<\/p>\n
