Report from the Dock<\/h2>\n

Slowly, water temperatures have again started to drop – not to where they should be this time of year, but it’s cooler and walleyes are starting to get more active. While the fish are still spread out in many areas, anglers in some parts of the states are finding bigger pods of slightly more aggressive walleyes. The fish are hitting in both shallow and deep water, definitely better than a week ago, and minnows, crankbaits, and guide baits are turning the majority of them. There were more reports this week of crappies being found suspended over deep water – another sign that fall fishing is kicking in. Bluegills, bass, and pike remain weed-related and active in many areas. As it usually does, the duck opener provided mixed reports. Some groups did excellent, others struggled, but everyone seemed to have a few birds in the bag. Wood ducks, teal, and geese were most abundant, with some mallards, wigeon, and ring-necks in the mix.<\/p>\n

Leech Lake Report<\/h2>\n

Jigs tipped with minnows or crawlers are producing walleyes along the east side of Portage Bay in 7 to 11 feet and on the rocks such as the Annex and Big Rock areas. At night, trolling crankbaits from Sand Point to Cedar Point in Walker Bay and in the Hardwoods area has produced walleyes in 8 to 12 feet. Bigger perch are slowly making their way onto the flats along the north end of Walker Bay in 5 to 9 feet, while muskie reports have been light. Waterfowl-hunting reports have varied, but there seems to be quite a mixed bag of ducks in the area.<\/p>\n
