With another week of warm weather, along with some rain in certain areas, ice conditions have deteriorated quickly in the southern half of the state. Many accesses and shorelines have started to open, and main-lake ice has become soft. You’ll probably be able to find a lake to fish on this weekend, but extreme caution is advised and plan on walking out. Ice conditions are much better in the northern part of Minnesota, generally from Brainerd and points north of it. Trucks are still being used in many locations, and ATVs will certainly be an option this weekend; just watch those access points moving forward. On the state’s big lakes to the north, most resorts have pulled their houses and closed accesses for the season, the exception being on Lake of the Woods, where everything has remained the same as far as options. Use the numbers in this report or check their social media platforms for travel options and accessibility.<\/p>\n

Leech Lake Ice Fishing Report<\/h2>\n

Perch are being caught on the mainlake mud in 15 to 17 feet, although some fish have started showing up around the 8- to 10-foot points and breaks in Walker Bay. The main-lake humps and Walker Bay are kicking out eelpout late in the day and after dark in 20 to 28 feet. Work the 7- to 10-foot weeds in Sucker Bay for panfish.<\/p>\n
