Ice-fishing opportunities are getting to be pretty limited from central Minnesota to points south. While there was still a lot of main-lake ice in these areas early this week, it’s become soft and compromised. Many shorelines and access points have also busted loose, and with more warm weather and rain in the forecast leading up to this weekend, it’s probably over in the southern half of the state. Ice conditions are better the farther north you travel – at least they were earlier this week, but everything appears to be changing quickly even in the northern part of the state. Generally speaking, there should be no issues with running ATVs or side by sides on lakes across most northern locations this weekend, but it’s all weather dependent. In short, you’ll be able to find a spot to fish through the ice this weekend, although you’re going to have to travel north to do so, at least with some level of confidence in the ice.<\/p>\n

Leech Lake Ice Fishing Report<\/h2>\n

Perch action has picked up in 5 to 9 feet off the north side of Sand Point in Walker Bay, Agency Bay, and the Hardwoods area. The 12- to 16-foot weeds in Sucker Bay are also producing perch, but you have to sort through more small fish. Eelpout continue to be caught on the 20- to 26-foot humps in Walker Bay during low-light periods. ATVs should remain a travel option this weekend.<\/p>\n
