Report from the Dock<\/h2>\n

The walleye season started as most do. There were some very good reports and some less-than-expected successes. For the most part, everyone seemed to catch a few walleyes. The weather was ideal on opening day and windy on Sunday, which limited participation.<\/p>\n

As the week started, not much had changed on the walleye front. Minnows were producing the majority of fish, with leeches, crawlers, and crankbaits also in the mix in some locations. For the most part, walleyes are hanging shallow, less than 10 feet in most areas, and as shallow as 2 to 5 feet during low-light periods of the day.<\/p>\n

Overall, it was a solid start to the walleye season. Crappie action has been excellent as they set up in pre-spawn or spawning locations, depending on where you\u2019re at in the state. In many areas that were less productive for walleyes, crappies, and to some extent bluegills, saved the day. Look for bass and bluegills to remain shallow as well.<\/p>\n

Leech Lake Fishing Report<\/h2>\n

It\u2019s been a solid start to the walleye season, and the standard jig and shiner minnow have been producing fish, although slip bobbers and leeches have worked as well. Key on the wind-driven points and shoreline breaks in 8 to 10 feet or the flats, such as West Goose and GrandVu in 8 to 12 feet. Late in the day and after dark, troll crankbaits in 6 to 9 feet on the main-lake shorelines and points. Crappies have started showing up in shallow water throughout most bays.<\/p>\n
