Report from the Dock<\/h2>\n

Arguably, it’s been the best week of fishing so far this spring, highlighted by great weather and high participation over Memorial Day weekend. The fish have been biting, too. While cooler, the weather conditions have been stable, and that seems to be leading to some stellar walleye action across the state. Anglers are now implementing most live bait options, but with water temperatures still relatively cool, minnows remain the primary bait choice. Wind-driven points and shorelines, developing weeds, and deeper structure are now all in play, and depending on the lake, it’s producing walleyes. Bluegill and bass activity has also improved in shallow water as they start to spawn, are currently spawning, or just wrapping it up; again, it just depends on the area. Work those docks, flooded trees, or sandy shorelines, and you should find bass and sunfish. Crappies have moved into the reeds or emerging weedbeds statewide.<\/p>\n

Leech Lake Fishing Report<\/h2>\n

Jigs tipped with minnows, leeches, and crawlers or a slip bobber and leech are producing walleyes on the north end of Bear Island in 12 to 16 feet, Trader\u2019s Bay in 9 to 12 feet, the Annex in 12 to 14 feet, and Goose Island Flats in 8 to 12 feet. Look for sunfish and crappies in the reeds or rice beds of most bays and bass continue to hit along the shorelines and docks in 3 to 6 feet.<\/p>\n
