Not much has really changed since last week, other than water temps shot back up as summer-like weather returned. After a few down days between weather patterns, walleyes seem to have settled back in and started feeding with more consistency again. Minnows, crawlers, and crankbaits are all turning walleyes along weedlines and deep structure during the day on many lakes. At night, the shallow water crankbait has picked up on some lakes as well. Crappies and bluegills are being found in and along the weeds or suspended just off of them in 15 to 20 feet or so. They have, without a doubt, provided the most consistent fish-catching opportunities across the state. Northern pike, largemouth bass, and smallmouth bass all remain active, but look for bigger fish along deep weeds or deep structure. Hunters flushed quite a few grouse on opening weekend, but getting off a shot was tough with so much cover.<\/p>\n

Leech Lake Fishing Report<\/span><\/p>\n

Jigs tipped with a minnow or crawler continue to produce walleyes around Goose Island in 9 to 13 feet and the Annex in 12 to 15 feet. Perch action seems to be improving daily on the north end of Walker Bay in 5 to 8 feet and along the 5- to 8-foot weedlines in Agency Bay. Muskies have transitioned to shallow rocks, 5 to 10 feet, and continue to hit bucktails or topwater baits.<\/p>\n
