Report from the Dock \u2013 Minnesota Fishing Conditions<\/h2>\n

This week\u2019s Minnesota fishing report shows that the fishing opener brought a mixed bag of conditions across the state. Strong winds and unusually cool temperatures created a challenging start to the season, limiting time on the water and slowing fish activity in many areas. Despite the weather, anglers across Minnesota are still finding walleyes, especially during the evening hours with jigs and minnows or live bait presentations along shorelines, points, and shallow structure.<\/p>\n

Water temperatures across much of Minnesota remain cooler than normal for mid-May, generally sitting in the low- to mid-40-degree range in northern Minnesota and gradually warming farther south. Because of the cool water, many fish are still holding in pre-spawn or transitional spring patterns.<\/p>\n

Crappies continue staging just outside traditional shallow spawning locations, while bass activity has remained strong in shallow water on many lakes. Northern pike action has also been consistent, especially in warming bays and shoreline areas throughout the state.<\/p>\n

As weather conditions stabilize and water temperatures rise, anglers can expect more consistent shallow-water panfish activity and improving walleye action across Minnesota lakes over the next couple of weeks.<\/p>\n

Leech Lake Fishing Report \u2013 Walker, MN<\/span><\/p>\n

On Leech Lake<\/span><\/span> near Walker<\/span><\/span>, it has been an unusually slow start to the walleye season, although fishing activity has improved slightly each day as water temperatures continue to rise.<\/p>\n

A jig and minnow presentation is producing the majority of walleyes on Leech Lake, with the evening hours providing the best bite. Current key fishing areas include Pine Point in 6 to 9 feet, Goose Island Flats in 10 feet, GrandVu Flats in 10 to 12 feet, and shoreline breaks in 8 to 12 feet.<\/p>\n

Crappies are beginning to show up in shallow bays and harbors around Leech Lake, although most fish are still holding slightly deeper in 8 to 10 feet due to lingering cold water conditions.<\/p>\n
