Report from the Dock \u2013 Minnesota Fishing Conditions<\/h2>\n

This week\u2019s Minnesota fishing report shows anglers continuing to battle cool temperatures and strong winds across much of the state, which has made consistent fishing conditions tough heading into late May. Despite the weather, walleye action has remained steady on many lakes with jigs and minnows, leeches, or crawlers producing fish along shoreline breaks, emerging weeds, and shallow structure during low-light periods.<\/p>\n

Water temperatures are still running cooler than normal in many northern Minnesota lakes, keeping a lot of fish in transitional spring patterns. Crappies and bluegills are beginning to push shallower during warm, sunny afternoons, but many schools continue to slide back out into slightly deeper water when cold fronts move through. Bass activity has stayed strong in shallow water statewide, while northern pike continue to be active along shorelines, reeds, and emerging weed edges.<\/p>\n

As conditions stabilize and water temperatures rise, Minnesota fishing reports should continue showing improved shallow-water panfish action and more consistent walleye bites heading into Memorial Day weekend.<\/p>\n

Leech Lake Fishing Report \u2013 Walker, MN<\/span><\/p>\n

Leech Lake walleye fishing remains best with a jig and minnow in shallow water during the evening hours. Walleyes are being caught in 7 to 9 feet on GrandVu Flats and Little Hardwoods, while the north end of Bear Island and Partridge Point are producing fish in 8 to 12 feet. Goose Island also continues to hold walleyes in 10 to 12 feet when wind conditions allow anglers to get out safely.<\/p>\n

Crappie fishing on Leech Lake has started improving in Sucker Bay and Boy Bay, where fish are relating to the 7- to 9-foot weedlines. As water temperatures warm, expect more panfish to push shallower into traditional spring locations throughout the Walker area.<\/p>\n
