Report from the Dock – Minnesota Fishing Conditions

This week’s Minnesota fishing report shows anglers settling into early summer fishing patterns as water temperatures continue to rise across the state. Walleyes have largely shifted away from shallow spring locations and are now being found along deeper structure, main-lake flats, and developing weed edges. Leeches and crawlers have become the preferred live bait presentations, while crankbaits and slip bobber rigs continue to produce during low-light periods.

Panfish and largemouth bass are also transitioning away from shoreline spawning areas and moving toward healthy weed growth, cabbage beds, and deeper reed lines. In many areas, rapidly developing weedlines have become some of the most productive locations for a variety of species. Smallmouth bass remain active as they move between shallow spawning habitat and nearby rock structure, while northern pike continue to hold along weed edges throughout much of Minnesota.

Overall, fishing remains strong statewide, but anglers finding success are focusing on deeper structure and emerging vegetation as fish adjust to warmer summer conditions.

Leech Lake Fishing Report – Walker, MN

Leech Lake walleye fishing continues to produce consistent action, with slip bobber rigs and jigs tipped with leeches or crawler pieces turning the majority of fish. Main-lake flats in 10 to 16 feet remain some of the most productive areas, while developing weed edges are also starting to hold fish. Larger concentrations of active walleyes continue to relate to rock structure, especially during the early morning, evening, and overnight hours.

Smallmouth bass have begun moving away from the shallow shoreline rocks and are now being found around mid-depth boulders and rocky structure. Largemouth bass, crappies, and bluegills are transitioning to deeper vegetation patterns as well, with productive fish holding along deep bulrush edges and cabbage weeds in the 7- to 9-foot range throughout many of Leech Lake’s bays.
